REVIEW OF THE RACEFEVER VERSION 1.1 FROM
DIGITAL FICTION ____________________________________________________________________________________
SOME INTRODUCTION
Previously, I was always playing with RaceFever
version 1.0 all night long when I was not asleep at the wee hours of the night. The cool
3D images and the need of speed drew me to love this wonderful 3D racing game which is
till now the most popular racing game for Palm OS. The 7th gear during the racing on my
RaceFever can really make my hair fly. That's a little too exaggerating 'thou. Well, let's
move on to the review of the RaceFever ver1.1 courtesy from our © Digital Fiction

SOME FACTS AND SPECS
There isn't much difference between the
RaceFever1.0 and RaceFever1.1 with regards to the graphics resolution and the mode of
play. Basically, Digital Fiction kept all the winning features from the version1.0 on
their version1.1. The main features that were added to the version 1.1 of the RaceFever
was the promised 2-Player mode which everyone was hoping for. The game-playing features
like Gear, Speed, Controls and Tracks are almost the same. There are however some
additional Tracks featured which you can check out for yourself when you purchase the
game. Some Specifications here :
- Single Race - You must pass the Recruit
Exam,Amateur Exam or Pro Exam to play some of the tracks. There are altogether 16 tracks
for you to choose from. They are namely Ste-Helene, New York, Long Beach, Milan, Chalk
River, Montreal, Rockies, Hondschoote, Old Port, Houston, Pisa, Paris, Lost City, Rome,
Sydney and London.
- Exams - There are basically 3 exams. They are the
Amateur, Recruit and Pro Exams. You must pass these exams to be able to play some of the
more difficult and more fun-packed tracks.
- Championships - There are 4 editions : Exhibition,
Rising Star, Odyssey and Ultimate. They are in ascending order of difficulty. You must
pass the Exams to play some of the tracks.
- 2-P Race - Race with your buddy and fellow racers
and enjoy the different tracks.
- 2-P Duel - Challenge your buddy to a one-on-one
for an ultimate racing challenge. Hot the number of cones to win.
THE ENTICING FACTOR
The 2-player mode is the main tempting factor
that spur me to get the registered version once it was out. There are 2 kinds of 2-player
modes. One is the 2-P Race and the other is the 2-P Duel. The 2-P Race is a race among the
other cars together with your Palm RaceFever buddy who has also the RaceFever 1.1. The 2-P
Duel is basically a challenge between you and your Palm RaceFever Buddy. I tried the 2-P
Duel and it was smooth throughout with me crashing everytime and *smelling* the smoke of
my buddy's car. Guess I need more practice. One factor they can improve on is that Digital
Fiction could have a marking on the other Racer's car like a 1st Player and 2nd Player so
that I know its my friend's car who is catching up with me. Cool suggestion?
LIKES
- Affordable and value for money
- Great graphics and sound (Although its just normal
engine sound with no crashing exaggerations)
- Now offer from Digital Fiction until 31 Dec 2000
at only US$19.96 >> Buy
now !!!!
DISLIKES
- There is no marking on the other player in the 2P
mode unlike in those arcade racing games
- The racing car always crash when it hits some
other car in front of it at high speed. I don't think that really happens in real life
>>> What do you think ???
- No color version for the Palm IIIc and Visor Prism
yet >>> Let's hope Digital Fiction sees this
